David Orea Luna and David Chichia were received into fellowship with the WELS in 1969. Mission work began in Mexico City and Guadalajara. One year later, the constitution of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mexico was adopted.
In 1972, Pastor Vincenet Guillén was called to the Cristo Resucitado congregation in Juarez. In 1984, La Santa Cruz, an established congregation in Monterrey, was accepted into fellowship. An additional congregation, El Redentor in Torreon, was received in 1990 and was served by a seminary graduate, Otoniel Rodriguez.
During the following years, more students enrolled in the seminary. In 2006, due to the increase in students, a seminary building was built and dedicated in Torreon. Five years later, the church held its first national women’s convention in Monterrey. By 2011, mission work had expanded to eight of Mexico’s 31 states.
